Sustainable Aquaculture Systems (Ras, Aquaponics…)

When we talk mention sustainability, we cannot fail to think about Aquaponics – which is the rearing of fish and growing of vegetable plants in the same circulatory system. This method has zero or limited impact to the environment
Aquaculture without borders is supporting Aquaponics systems for the youth and women so that they have a reliable sustainable economic activity either in their rural or urban dwelling places. The ultimate goal is to create employment, contribute towards food security, good nutrition and ensure the systems are sustainable.

How is Aquaponics beneficial

a. The systems requires less land/space and water. So maximizing land use and minimizing water usage is a big plus.
b. It is sustainable and a great method of organic farming – “Good health better life”
c. It guarantees all year supply of animal protein and vegetable in both tropical and temperate countries.
d. All year round production guarantees constant flow of income
e. We’d have healthier population (fish and vegetable are wonderful sources of nutritious)
f. In this system, several varieties of vegetable (indigenous or exotic) can be grown.
