Aquaculture - School projects

This aims at preparing future food producers and improving nutrition in school going kids. Supporting schools to have simple production systems will impart great knowledge to children as they grow. Concurrently pupils and students will have hand on experience in some aquaculture aspects. Schools will be able to grow their own food hence cutting costs and providing nutritious diet to students. Viable school projects are, Recirculatory aquaculture systems which can further be extended to aquaponics and other forms of integrated aquaculture.

The school projects includes

- RAS and Aquaponics for schools

- Ornamental fish for schools

- Fish-farm visits

- School-to-school visit (to learn from each other)

Benefits of farm visits

- It avails a different learning environment to stimulate students thinking

- Students have hands on experience and be immersed in new production techniques

- Motivates students because it backs classroom theoretical lessons.

- It’s fun to be outdoors

- Motivates students to appreciate outdoor jobs
