AQUACULTURE BEYOND BORDERS
COMMUNITY BASED FISH FARMS
Focusing on community initiatives, ABB closely collaborates with the local marginalised community groups to enhance their capacity to sustainably produce locally farmed fish in Kenya such as Tilapia and African Catfish. This project fosters sustainable aquaculture practices with the aim to improve food security and secure alternative livelihoods. Community-based aquaculture is gaining traction in Kenya, offering a promising path to improve food security and livelihoods. By sharing knowledge, resources, and the harvest through this project, communities can empower themselves and create a sustainable source of protein.
BAHARI ENDELEVU
Our Bahari Endelevu project (sustainable oceans) project is dedicated to the conservation of critical marine habitats along the beautiful coast of Kenya. Through collaborative efforts with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders, our project aims to protect and restore vital marine ecosystems such as coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass beds. By safeguarding these habitats, we not only preserve biodiversity and ensure the health of our oceans but also unlock opportunities for sustainable blue economy development. Through education, capacity-building, and hands-on conservation activities, we empower coastal communities to become stewards of their marine environments while exploring avenues for responsible economic growth. Together, we are working towards a future where Kenya's oceans thrive, supporting livelihoods and ecosystems alike
SAMAKI ENDELEVU
Our Samaki Endelevu Project (sustainable fisheries) is committed to promoting sustainable fisheries along the Kenyan coast. Through our project, we aim to safeguard the vital supply of proteins by implementing sustainable fishing practices and exploring fish value addition options. By working closely with local fishermen, fisherwomen, and fishing communities, we advocate for responsible harvesting techniques that ensure the long-term health of marine ecosystems and fish populations. Additionally, we seek to enhance the economic viability of the fishing industry by enhancing community capacity aspects in value addition methods such as processing, packaging, and marketing of fish products. Through education, training, and support, we empower coastal communities to maximize the value of their catch while preserving marine resources for future generations. Together, we strive to build a more resilient and prosperous future for Kenya's fisheries sector.
MWANI ENDELEVU
Our Mwani Endelevu (Sustainable seaweed farming) Project is dedicated to fostering sustainable seaweed farming initiatives along the picturesque coastline of Kenya. Through our project, we empower local communities to harness the potential of the blue economy by engaging in responsible seaweed cultivation practices. By providing training, technical assistance, and access to resources, we enable coastal residents to cultivate seaweed in an environmentally friendly manner, preserving marine ecosystems while generating economic opportunities. Seaweed farming not only offers a sustainable source of income for coastal communities but also contributes to ocean health and biodiversity conservation. Together, we are working towards a future where communities thrive through the sustainable utilization of Kenya's rich marine resources.
